Towel size vs retained moisture

After showering, I dry myself with a towel. In fact I've got several towels, of different sizes and colours ( Read more... )

Yeah, I guess I'm more thinking along these lines:

1) you take your towel off the rack
2) you notice it's a little damp still so you try to avoid those areas, but your towel doesn't really fit so well around you when you're trying to dry your back with the top right corner, so even though you may avoid, say, wiping your face dry with a damp area or drying your hair with an obviously wetter area you'll end up drying yourself with the majority middle section which will end up being approximately as wet each time.
3) you hang your towel up
4) rinse and repeat if necessary

another thing to notice is that drying patterns depend on how you hang your towel. If you hang it off, say, a hook or a knob, the area around the knob is not going to dry as quickly as the ends. Since you tend to hang the middle off the knob you'll find that your towel just won't dry very well there. On a rail it's more even, except that the "wall" side of the towel will not dry as quickly as the open to the air side.

Solution? Get one of those heated towel racks. Mmm.

Hehe. :)

The knob problem is an interesting one, but there are other subtle issues. For example, I hang my towel over a rail, but then I got to thinking: what if having both sides hanging evenly over the rail actually prevents drying, because the two moist surfaces in close proximity will result in moist air which, as unknownblogger points out, isn't a good absorber of more moisture? So I have ended up doing a lopsided hang, where one side hangs down the minimum possible distance.

Of course the problem there is when I underestimate the minimum possible distance and the towel ends up on the floor. This is disastrous for drying.

i.e. being a lazy bum pays off? :D

Somehow I get the impression you're not taking this nearly so seriously as it should be!
