That was nearly funny. Got to comment on matociquala's journal about the Irish Health System.

Seriously, they need to stop wanking over it and start actually doing something about it. The pay freeze should be on support staff/office lackeys and office supplies and not on nurses etc. They need to stop outsourcing cleaning and get people who are responsible for an area ON THE BOOKS, they need to educate an entire generation of doctors that ties are bad and disgustingly dirty and that cleaning your hands at each and every patient is good. They also need to pay off a chunk of managers and excessive paper pushers and get rid of their posts.

Then we can start talking about how the service is inefficent, it doesn't have to be efficient, it has to make sure that people don't contract MRSA while in hospital, it has to make sure that people who go in sick are healed, that they don't get worse, that people feel like they're people instead of pretty little numbers. Once they're finished doing the work of making people better, or caring for them or whatever it is that the PEOPLE need, then you can look at ways to save money. It is cheaper to centrally organise the ordering of materials but if all I need is a pen I'll probably shell out for a decent one.

Sometimes the cheapest isn't the most economical. For a while they were ordering pens in the libraries for use at the desks. These pens are subject to huge theft, so cheap is good. Only the pens they got leaked all over the place, getting ink all over your hands and generally being more of a nuisance than a usefulness. So they stopped buying them. Only I think that the Health Service keep buying the equivalent of those stupid pens, they're not learning or encouraging a culture of feedback.
