misty missives

There are several problems with time travel which any of you interested in the subject should be wary of.

Having received - that is to say, intercepted, a message from young(ish) Wytchcroft, these points have been driven home to me once again.

I shall quote liberally.

"Behold the darkening majesty of the Carpathians at dusk!"

Ever fond of the purple prose, I note, hmmph!
Anyway he continues...

"Travelling along lines of imagination, association, not to mention the direct crossing of time zones, an interesting event has occurred. Slippage. Somehow in the midst of our mooning sojurn aboard the Oriental Express I have arrived on the long roads of Transylvania. Where, how, why and who is to blame you may ask..."

We may indeed, with better grammar perhaps, my friend, but carry on.

"It is a mystery which I can furnish with little answer - perhaps an eddy in the matrix of our interests, perhaps merely the tide of our imaginations perhaps -"

Let's cut to the chase shall we?

"It is said that there are primary portals, if you know where to look. Florence 1925, for example, Diana the Huntress, something of a flapper it must be said - perhaps this is her capricious handiwork, the result of a late night drinking contest between herself and my wife. In any case, the fact is that I find myself, in real time (as you can see), walking the Transylvanian way. Not that I'm complaining."

Or indeed making much sense, but don't mind me.

"I should add that crossing the time barrier has produced not only my sudden detour but also a most serious case of Net-lag for which I feel I must apologise, even as, once I reach that glamorous looking pile of a castle, I shall attempt to rectify it. That is to say - sleep again in the UK night and rise in the UK morning. In the inter-rim, I am lucky that (officially) I still have a week’s holiday in which to do so - but feel free to ignore any further messages should my temporal delirium increase."

Thus we are returned to my cautionary message; Time travel may appear simple but you can never be certain of your destination, nor should you ignore those effects on the body and mind that would afflict the traveller in space, they are very much one and the same experience.

And so, I must be moving on now myself, I hope this short presentation has been of some small instructional benefit!
Sincerely,
Dr Who.
