(no subject)
As you drive back the lane (long driveway) you’re going to pass some signs. “turn back now” “this way to the castle”, a painting of a flying monkey, some other signs. You might be curious about these things. You might even decide to ask. Or maybe not. Suffice it to say that my father loved the movie Wizard of Oz. So he made and hung signs after it was just him here and he didn’t have to get his weird ideas past my mother.
The back staircase is another part of this - Dad painted it to protect it when the roof was falling apart and water was coming in from rain. He could have painted it solid. He didn’t. He painted it to look like brick - more to the point, he painted it to look like yellow bricks. I have little second cousins who love coming over here so they can run up and down the stairs, singing “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” at the top of their lungs all the while. My father really was one of a kind, no?
