I went to our CUUPS meeting last night, and was VERY surprised to have several of the people there go NUTS about my tarot skills! Several of them now have either been at one of my classes or were there at Samhain when I did ritual readings, and it appears that I am garnering quite the reputation. This was good for me to hear, because I am now on the reduced hours from the library, and I'm going to be depending more and more on my other streams of income... tarot being one of them. (I also did a couple of tech support jobs, so after getting a teeny-tiny check the day before Thanksgiving, I am feeling much better with a little money in my pocket).
I went to the interview at the alternative health shoppe, and, even though I think it is a very good deal, I still have to come up with $150 to start, and $150 every month after that for the space. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I kind of think I can do better just on my own.
I decided to bring my deck to CUUPS, so that I can continue to promote myself, and people got very excited and wanted readings. There was another guy there that also reads... he has been reading for 15 years, (me, tarot for nearly 30, and cards for over 40). I felt bad because he seemed disappointed that he wasn't going to get the glory of the evening because I was going to upstage him. I decided, at the end of the night, to ask him to read for me. Poor thing... he is a completely competent reader, but I am afraid I intimidate him a bit. At any rate, he did an excellent job reading for me, even if his hands were shaking a bit.
He said that I was doing EXACTLY the thing that I am supposed to be doing, and that I should carry on with it even though I will face some challenges in the near future, they are nothing that I can't handle. The other was, he said, that there was a close friend of family member who really thinks that I am on the wrong path and that I am being led astray, but to not let that get me down. I AM on the right path, and I should not let the opinion of one person dissuade me. (I think I know who this person is).
At any rate, it was a very positive, uplifting reading, and that was good to hear, because I mostly think everything is going to be ok... that I am going to have enough time get my homework done AND make extra money so I don't starve. I think a positive attitude is the best attitude to take right now, but I don't want to fool myself into thinking that I don't have to be very careful and not be wasteful of time, money, or energy.
The next door neighbor wants me to edit his 80 page thesis. I normally get a dollar a page, but I can't ask him for $80, as much as I would like to. I know they are barely surviving, too. But, hopefully, there will be some money coming my way from that.
Still haven't decided about WomanSpirit (although it might be too late, I don't know). And, I still have the Dianic 40th anniversary coming up. So, all good things, and opportunities to put food on the table, but still got lots of homework to do, so, although I am hopeful, I can't really say that I am relaxed.
