Update:
My brother ventured into my window well to retrieve the hapless toad and was attacked by a nasty, vicious spider along the way. So, instead of getting a broom from the garage, he removes the screen from my window and grabs the poor little toad that way. The toad's safe now, released somewhere among the plants in one of the driveway gardens. However, as I was sitting here, working on my paper, I heard a noise that sounded suspiciously like some amphibian hitting my window. Sure enough, a second toad has appeared out of no where and is trying to escape the window well. Sometimes, I think people were heading in the right direction with the theory of spontaneous generation.
Changing toward the religious and rather political, I came across
this article today. Women are seeking ordination in the Catholic church. Several did in 2002, but they were all excommunicated. Fortunately, some women were ordained as bishops and can keep this movement alive. Regardless of my view on Christianity, I think this is wonderful. However, I'm not naive to believe that the pope will actually do anything to end sexism in the church.
