One of the joys of working in a used bookstore is you occasionally find amazing treasures. I have found several of James Tiptree, Jr.'s books and short story collections, which has delighted me to no end. About the only other place you could find her short stories (and a novella or two) were in Hugo anthologies. However, I've found The Starry Rift and Ten Thousand Light-Years from Home. I swear I had Crown of Stars which has the one story of hers I've been dying to read, but if I bought it, it's not on any of my bookshelves.

The down side is that you have to rely on other people selling you their books. I found an omnibus that the first two books of Suzy McKee Charnas' tetrology and the fourth book, but I have yet to find the third book so I don't want to start reading that yet. Charnas has mostly been forgotten, which is too bad. As far as I know, she's the only sci fi writer that has a book with no male characters at all. I suppose I could buy it from Amazon or Barnes and Noble because I don't think they're out of print yet. Nor can I find them in ebook form so...blech.

One of the greatest treasures I found was Dreamsnake, since it went out of print some time ago. The copy that came in was in terrible condition but still readable, so huzzah for me! Now I just need to sit down and finally read through the books that I've been collecting.
