Part of my job is buying books back from the public. In the year (almost eighteen months) I've worked there, I've managed to be mostly objective when it comes to books and media I don't like. Everyone has their biases. When a book I want to read or a CD by a group I love comes in, I'll bump the offer up somewhat. But when it comes to awful things like the Left Behind series or the Twilight series, I offer based on how I know they'll sell, like they're supposed to.

Today was the first day I lowballed because of their books. They were vile. Most were anti-Semitic, like Satan's Synagogue or something like that. Oh, and how Jews were responsible for 9/11. And how vaccines are really money-making schemes for Big Pharma. I'm adamantly for vaccines; there's no reason pertussis or polio should be making any sort of come back in this country. I've never lowballed a Jenny McCarthy book before (though that doesn't stop me from ranting about her to whichever coworker is nearby). The only way this buy could have been worse is if that elders of Zion or whatever the fuck it is would have been there.

You know what? I don't feel the slightest bit guilty. I wish I could have just recycled them, but since they were clean (which I hope means that the seller was given them and didn't actually buy them), the shift leader made me put them on the pricing table.
