What an experience.
Photos I took, albeit a bit boring, here...
https://www.flickr.com/photos/98762415@N06/sets/72157647464539033/ I still like AC better for weird reasons, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to go to MFF.
The drive started Tuesday before the con. I drove to Terre Haute to stay with a friend that night. I took a solid 12 hours to drive from my home to there. I know I listened to the rest of the third book of The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and that kept my mind pretty busy till the last 2 hours. I FINALLY KNOW WHAT THE BOWL OF PETUNIAS meant when it said, "oh no, not again". LOL. Most of that remaining time was spent cursing the slow traffic of IN roads. When I arrived, I decompressed. Later Derecho and I took off to a Mexican eating place and I stuffed myself silly.
Wednesday morning I began the last 3.5 hours of driving to Rosemont IL. That was the flattest most boring stretch of road I've ever experienced. THANK GOD I didn't have to use the restroom (#2) during that drive. There was NOTHING to run and hide in. :)
With the time zone corrected, I arrived at the MFF hotel at about 1pm. My roommate, yarwick, had not made it yet but I was able to check in and it took a number of trips to move all my stuff into the hotel room. I've been told I pack to much and I don't argue. This'll be a good reason why I never fly to a con. It'll also determine what cons I'll never go to. Self regulating. :)
It was at the point I set up things and started mingling at the con, things get foggy. The rest of the con was mostly a blur. I met Marrok and Brokken again after years of having not seen them. I met others I hadn't seen since a few cons ago to a few years ago. I stayed moving. I didn't even sit down much the whole con. A friend of mine said I was the kinda of guy that would talk to every 6th person and they weren't wrong. I practice what I preach. Don't be snobby. Enjoy the company. :)
Still with many others I had NEVER met but only knew by name, I saw for the first time. A few werewolf people, Wildfox, Ocicat, and countless others. Thankfully I don't know of any one of them that weren't in the best of moods and failed to give me the warmest welcomes.
I had the opportunity, more than once to experience some new stuff but I ran out of time and never did. *shrugs*
Saturday late / Sunday early, we had that stupid chlorine spurred evacuation. That helped disrupt a number of things. Thankfully, I wasn't put out too much at the very moment it happened. I was going to my room to consider changing into my silicone lycan mask and flaunting some odd looks to get equally odd looks. A friend caught me on the way to my room and we sat down in my room to talk about recent events and such. It was a good talk and worth the distraction. At the end of that chat, we both agreed it was time to move around a bit. I grabbed my video camera, and extra battery for my phone, and prepared to be out on the con floor for about 2 more hours since getting into suit wasn't really happening. As both of us walked out the room, the alarms went off. I took off for the restroom at the end of the hall because I had been holding it for the last hour. When I got outside... Well.. Bla bla bla. Cold. confusion. Some really awesome sights of room parties I wasn't brave enough to inquire about. More cold. More confusion. Got video and photos of lots of it.

4 hours later, We go back into the hotel. I take a shower and lay down. I was so tired I was randomly laughing at what I saw. I was out of it.
My trip into Chicago with Derecho sorta petered out because of the BS earlier Sunday morning. But perhaps I'll find a way and the desire to return to MFF. I'll admit I could of pressed the issue but so much of the con morning had been blown on catching up with sleep, I didn't feel like risking it. I had a schedule to keep with a photo shoot anyway so... *shrugs*
Monday I was going to get up about 7am, load up the rest of my stuff, and roll out. Mom called me about 6:30, not realizing the time zone difference and was concerned if I had left yet. Seems there was a wall of freezing rain and snow showing on the radar she was looking at and she wanted to see if I was gone yet. I had to tell her I hadn't yet but at that point, I might as well go ahead and get up and start moving. 30 minutes later I had things in the car and I gave my roommate a quick hug and said goodby to the con. The car just about didn't start that morning. It rolled over two times in a labored fashion and fired on the last one.
VROOOM! I started driving a little after 7 and due to my stupid-ass sense of direction and lack of big city traffic knowledge on a weekday morning, I was stuck in traffic going towards Chicago for 2 M'Fking hours! When I finally got past the city, the roads opened up and the next 12 hours were pretty much foot to the floor. I Listened to the whole of the audio book , "Star Ship Troopers". What a rip off. It kept my mind busy but it wasn't very exciting. I arrived back home at 11pm that night on the dot.
Would I go again? Yea.
Will I go again? Not planning on it.
AC still wins it for me.
