Back In the City Again

A lot has gone on since my most recent journal entry. Instead of buying a van to live in, I'm now renting a house in the city with one of my best friends, Sheena. It was a pretty sudden turn of events and certainly a positive one. Living in the city means that I spend about three less hours per day on my commute to work and I'm not dependent on other people to get me to the nearest bus station. I'm able to get around the city via MARTA, so I'm not trapped at home and have the freedom do things besides ping-ponging back and forth between home and work. Sheena has been proving a fantastic housemate, and it's great to have a real friend around most of the time. Coming home from work and having real conversations most evenings is something I've desperately missed since Brenda and I separated.

It's been taking me a while to get really settled into my new space. I've been slowly chipping away at going through all the crap I have and either finding places for them (even if their place is in the attic) or trashing them. At some point I'm going to try to get all my stuff out of paid storage and then I'll have to start the process all over, but at least after that I won't have to pay for storage anymore.

It should all be done by now, but I've had a bit of a focus problem. I have been experiencing pretty severe lethargy, so being productive seems to take ten times more effort than seems reasonable. Some days are better than others, but the temptation to blow off working on getting my stuff sorted out is always strong. Of course, this is the first time since I moved out of East Atlanta Village that I've been able to able to feel real peace in my own home, so maybe a bit of time relishing it isn't uncalled for.

I don't want to get too comfortable in idleness, though, so I've started going back to my old system of making myself earn my luxury time. It was pretty effective when I was sticking to it a couple of years ago.
