The last few weeks several friends I know at one point or another have been saying how unhappy they are with their life. This has prompted a couple discussions and journal posts from other friends. And the same question gets asked after listening to their woes. Why are they so unhappy? I mean we are only human right? Everyone has moments where they are unhappy, myself included. But I try my very best to not stay that way. A friend called me last night and I listened to her talk for over an hour about how bad her life is and how miserable she is. While listening I sat there and thought what is so bad? I don't understand. She got a promotion at work, he husband got a raise last month, they bought a new car, he son made the all-stars baseball team. She told me all these things and inbetween them she states that she wants to pull her hair out, that she is unhappy and wants to run away from her life for a while. I thought why??? Don't get me wrong we live in a world that honestly can be down right horrible, but it is what YOU make it out to be. I have made it a point to start teaching my children that when they feel bad or unhappy about something they talk about it with me and then we find two things to be happy about. That has been working great. I told this to my friend last night. I told her to write down everything she is unhappy about a list then she has to write double happy things in her life. I told her that recently I had done this myself and it is amazing once you see something in black and white how it stands out. So I hope she does what I suggested but I don't know if she will or not.
I wish people would find that inner peace with themselves. It is not easy to find but once you do things that try to hurt or destroy you will not be able to. I found this poem and I think it sums up for me what happiness is.
This Moment Of Happiness
If happiness only lies
In a place we don't exist
And only future days
Are one’s we miss
If satisfaction never comes
And dreams are unattained
Then you sacrificed your happiness
And only you’re to blame
The moment that we’re living
Should be lived with no regret
Don't let reaching for the future
Have you to obsessed
Find happiness
While you have your health
The evidence from pleasing others is
You may not always please yourself
