I'm not going to cover the masquerade in this entry, since that's another beast entirely.
I actually managed to start the day off at a decent hour, much to my relief. Waiting six hours for the fun to begin while everyone else is asleep is rather dull.
The events began at ten, and I began my day by violating my 'no buying souvenirs' policy. I couldn't leave without any End of Time figures; I just couldn't! Leaving a DW con without buying a Doctor is just wrong. But, anyway, it was at this point that I found out about the bank snafu involving my check being cashed early and money being missing from my account. Nothing like the fear of identity theft to ruin one's morning. But I refused to let it get me down. After hitting the Dealer's Room, I caught a bit of 'Claws of Axos' in the video room, then hurried off to the Director's Roundtable panel, which consisted of Alice Troughton, Graeme Harper, and Colin Teague.
It was interesting, listening to them blame each other for the Sarah Jane Adventures budget, or Harper's problems with getting the 'Cybermen' two-parter done on time. There were also stories about Classic Who and Torchwood.
The next panel was Louis Page's slideshow. Right before it began, I nearly bulldozed over the poor woman in the bathroom (the first of several guest near misses I had; I was nearly run over by Gary Russell, and at one point I nearly decked Tony Lee.) Louise had a number of slides, and she obviously loved telling stories about them. We got to hear about how the Tenth Doctor's look came about, how everyone is wrong about the fabric of his coat (some sort of upholstery that's soft and, according to David Tennant, feels like 'wearing a beastie.'
She also had some amusing stories about some of the costume disasters, such as when Phil Collinson told her to shorten the Doctor's coat, so she cut off five inches only to have RTD tell her he wanted it the original length. Another time, during the filming of The Runaway Bride, filming was begun in secret and she had to sneak the costumes on set, after telling everyone that she was at a wrap party, and, while she was doing this, her bag ripped and the Doctor costume fell in a puddle. She also explained the change in the UNIT uniforms from camo to black; the change had been discussed, but rejected. Unfortunately, Louise didn't hear that last part, so she made the black uniforms. At the last moment, RTD decided he liked how sexy the black uniforms looked. She also talked some about Karen Gillan and The Fires of Pompeii. It seems she's 5'10", and a model. I get the feeling I'm going to be jealous of her...
My favorite part was when she talked about the Master and The End of Time. Apparently, John Simm came in thinking that the multiple Masters were going to be done by CGI. He wasn't thrilled to realize that, nope, he was going to have to do all the costume changes. She was amused by the fact that he was such a small guy and fit into everything, even the kid's clothes. She also said he had great legs. LOL.
These are some of her slides:
I wish I could've attended her costumer's panel. I heard she had samples.
After that came the Georgia Moffet interview. This one had me a little worried; I was terrified that one of the more intense David Tennant fans would ask her questions about him, and make the rest of us DT fangirls look bad. Fortunately, it never came up. Georgia talked about working with her father, how she'd originally auditioned for a role in The Unicorn and the Wasp, and how her dad, fresh from Time Crash, told her, "It's your turn, kid." She seemed at times like a ditzy blond, but I can't help but think she was playing it up a bit.
There was a cute moment when she spoke with Female!Five (I think she was a little weirded out), and another funny bit in which she was asked if she'd play Jenny with her father's Doctor (her 'no' was very emphatic.)
It was also a rather... athletic panel. Tony Lee was interviewing, and he was having fun making people jump on their seats to ask questions.
The panel ended with Georgia being asked what DW villain she'd like to play. Her answer? The Master!
There's some fanfic in that somewhere.
I spent the next couple of hours afterward getting autographs - during which I learned that 'Jamie' is apparently a good name to have at a Doctor Who convention - before catching the Tribute to Barry Letts, which was rather sweet. Afterwards, there was some brief downtime before the masquerade.
And with that, I'll end with Daleks.
