vash_chan asked me this ages ago but I never got to replying... m(_ _)m I realise I'm really bad at replying to comments sometimes (>.<)
Main differences:
- Korea has the awesome-ness of winter and I'd really rather freeze in negative temperatures than suffer hot and humid Singapore. However, Korea's summer is more or less like Singapore so nothing is perfect.
- Seoul doesn't rate high on the cleanliness scale at all, but then Singapore is incredibly clean, and Sydney isn't the cleanest place so I think my views on this are really skewed. It's a city, it's okay.
- Downtown Seoul has no animals. You'd be lucky to find a flock of pigeons. Even the suburbs have very very few animals. Like birds and strays. Come to think of it, Sydney doesn't have many either. It's probably that I'm used to the presence of birds and strays in Singapore...
- The people in Korea are very friendly. In Seoul, they seem to have lost a bit of that, but outside Seoul, people are just much nicer. Singaporeans will never be able to compare to that... Even friendly suburban Sydney pales in comparison.
- Korea feels very homogeneous. Coming from a multi-racial society, it felt kinda strange...
- Everyone smokes. Okay, most men smoke. The women who do don't smoke openly. Cigarettes are really really cheap.
- Alcohol is really really cheap. A bottle of soju can cost 1000won (a little less than USD1).
