Death smells like car exhaust gone wrong...

A quick summary of the last few weeks...

2 weeks ago, a few days after Steve Jobs dog'n'pony show (introducing the new iPods) we ventured forth to see an iTouch in person. We were unaware they would not be out until the end of the month. Since the reduced price of the smaller iPhone was only $50 more than the sidekick I'd been considering (& adding in the time and expense of the excursion) the husband said we should go ahead with the iPhone. As I mentioned earlier I am now quite happy to have NOT purchased an iTouch online instead!

We returned home to find someone had a break-in. I'm not sure it should be called that since the person went in through an open window 4 feet off te ground. It was the apartment I always pass by and think how much fun I could have with hand puppets and all the pen windows if I had friends living there.

The next day (& the following several days) I was incapacitated and I spent the time exploring the versatility of my new toy and testing the battrery life. Multitasking and non-stop usage can require a couple charges a day. I now carry the charger with me everywhere I go.

Last Friday I tested the free wifi at the coffee place next door. I added an extension cord to my bag of "never leave the house without it" stuff.

Last Saturday we learned there had been a death in the building. I find it interesting how the manager avoided saying it was a suicide directly. I think it must have bothered him alot and he was conflicted between being "correct" and needing to vent. I am unsure how long the body was there before discover (I was trying to be correct myself and not ask intrusive questions) but it was less than 4 weeks. I'm guessing one or two. Learning this explained the strange smell in our apartment Friday morning. I had woken up and fed the cats and upon returning to bed I discovered a pool of odd smell in the corner over the bed. The closest I could come to identifying it was car or deisel exhaust, just very very wrong the same way decarbonizer smells very very wrong. I switched the fan to blow out on one sidento stir up the stagnant air and returned to bed.

The following day D started to feel quite ill, and I was not feeling much better. Sunday night D opened the closet to find full of solvent fumes which made us both feel much worse. We woke te manager and put the air filter in the closet. It turns out we have a painter in the building. I'm goingro have to talk with the manager and findout hownte air ducts work here, and then cover the offending vent. Neither one of us can afford to breathe that stuff any more!

This is also the reason I have open windows even though it is getting rather cold out. I keep expecting the heat to be turned on any day now. I need to hurry up and build that window bench for the kitties. I am thinking they will enjoy that quite a bit. Who knows, they might even stop clinging to me all the time!
