The latest: Mz D- called this afternoon to ask if I could give her and her DBF (now DF? Someday DH?) a ride, as their vehicle had stalled and was not running at all. I agreed to get one of them, as my back seat is still a bit glassy from the storm, and went to find them. I fetched Mz D- and brought her back to her house so she could get her car and return for her DF. As I pulled into her driveway, a police car pulled up directly behind me and wanted to speak to the registered owner... me. He informed me, rather rudely, that my license was revoked, and when I questioned how that could be, he snarled out a number of scenarios that could cause that to happen. When I pointed out that I thought I would be likely to remember getting a DWI, he asked for my license and proof of insurance to run a check. He became much more pleasant once it became apparent that I had no idea what he was talking about. It seems that the speeding ticket I got in FEBRUARY, which included a note about failure to provide proof of insurance (I had departed my house rather abruptly - it was a really rough week) had come back to haunt me. The county dropped the charge (no proof of insurance) as soon as I provided it, but the STATE revoked my license anyway. When I questioned how that could be, the officer said that IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!!!!! WTF????? The state can revoke a livense, but not bother to inform the driver?
Anyway, once I freaked out, in a small way, he was really nice about the whole thing. He suggested that I find other transportation if at all possible, and if I promised to TRY, he wouldn't ticket me. In fact, he said "do your best not to drive". I shit you not. He even suggested that I "go have a shot". Again, WTF?
I took the morning off tomorrow to deal with as much of this as possible.
If I don't see the humor in this, I might have a nervous breakdown. See the humor with me, if you will: This all came up because Mz D- and her DF were having car problems. It really is kind of funny.
Having said that, can I please, please, PLEASE be done now?
