Walking away from the king
Individuals can opt out of Empire by, as Korten describes it, "walking away from the king. It centers not on confronting the authority of the king, but on walking away-withdrawing the legitimacy and life energy on which the king's power depends." It's a non-confrontational, low-key method of depriving Empire of the support it needs to exist.
One approach to walking away is to create a different mythology that challenges Empire's core stories. "Changing the framing stories of the culture, that is the true revolutionary act." [....]
Ordinary people will be the agents of change because those in the establishment have too much to lose. "The real change that has to take place is building new institutions, new cultures from the bottom up that gradually draw energy away from those Dominator structures. So it's less conquering them, than dissipating them by withholding our own life energy on which their existence ultimately depends. The key is that it has to be withheld by a whole lot of people. Otherwise, if it's only a few people they of course get squashed."
I don't agree with everything Mr. Korten says in the article, but yes.
