a better way

A fun dream that I had... My brother was convicted by a judge on a charge of involuntary manslaughter; somehow he'd been indirectly responsible for someone's death. But in this reality, the conviction did not mean prison time. It meant that for the duration of the sentence to be carried out, he would be subjected to a strange psychological torment: he'd be seeing monsters.

The monsters were all ghostly dark shadows, but they took different forms and they infested everything... they moved everywhere. I had the impression that they existed whether you could see them or not, but those being punished had the second sight forcibly imposed upon them. It could also be that they were fabricated hallucinations.

The catch was that for some reason I was affected too, so I was trying to convince the judge to shorten the sentence. xD

The dream reminded me of this piece by 0-4, or those demons in Ghost... only scarier. I woke up with the thought of how much more effective a deterrent this would be to forced isolation. :)
