"There is no such thing as writing: there is only re-writing."

Which is a thing one of my profs at UO liked to say, and he was probably right. (Or: write?)

Apropos of this, I am thinking of revising Freefall once again, notably because I think that it is one of the weakest stories in my body of work and that this is particularly unfortunate as it serves as the introductory piece to the eponymous story cycle ( Read more... )

I have in mind someone on TFN who might like to try this. I'll pass along the message.

Your work is well-written so that it'll never appear on the above site, perhaps that is a comfort?

Oh, dear. Well, there are about four typos that I know of in the AO3 edit … but not as bad as the one you caught for me once, "shit" instead of "ship," or whatever it was. *embarrassed*

Thanks for passing it along. It may not be of interest to most people or indeed to anybody, but since I'm going to do a revision anyway, it seems like a good time to invite critique on multiple levels. What I'd really like to see would be more critiques of anybody's work on fanlit_project, but that hasn't really taken off very well.

Yes, you're right; it was "shirt." That 'r' went missing …

And I would just like to reiterate that I will be glad to hear your comments at any time! :)

I haven't typically used a beta reader. Do you find it to be helpful?

I don't have time to offer critique or discussion right now, but I will say that rewriting 'Alexis' and 'You Know Who?' were wonderful experiences for me. Refining original concepts into something really polished and developing ideas further So I'm sure you'll get a lot out of the process like I did. :)

This is actually the fourth revision Freefall will have undergone, but I have Devious Plans to make it more extensive than the previous ones, largely because I have now gotten far enough along in the storyline to better gauge consistency … or so I hope! :)

Also: I have totally not forgotten that I owe you and Lumy some fic. My muse has fled from Darth Real Life, but I hope to hold the latter at bay for a few hours this weekend … APOM also needs an update!
