SCUBA

I finally got to go scuba diving this summer. Last weekend, I was in Mexico. What a fun time? It was hot and humid, but great. I really enjoyed boating out to the dive sites and talking with my scuba buddies. I got to meet some new and interesting people. One person is an archeologist, another an er physician, and a third was a lawyer. One of the trip organizers is a welder. I am finding out the people you last expect will be the most interesting and surprising. I met a couple who don't seem to look like they match, and I can only remember the ladies name. But anyway....They were telling me about their last dive trip which was aboard a liveaboard in Thailand. WOW! to think they looked like beginners. I guess you can't judge a book by its cover. ANyway...I also met a dude who owns a Delorean. I thought those cars went out with Crocket and Tubbs. Oh well.

I got to try out my new dive gear: Dive computer, prescription dive mask and new BC. It was awesome. Just being able to see all the things I had missed before. I finally got to see an octopus in the wild. It was very cool. The octopus was small, and at first it was green-bluish in color. As it became aware of people around it, it started to change colors from the green to a dark reddish brown to almost black. Then it would take off and swim, with its tentacles tucked together. All streamlined. Very cool. THen it would land on a rock and change shape and colors to blend in to the rock. It would get all spikey with white and reddish-brown color patterns. If I took my eyes off it for a second, I would have lost it. Then it would sit there for a minute or two...long enough to relax. Then it would turn back to the green and start moving. It would reach out a tentacle and grab onto a rock and crawl along like that. It was very neat to see the suction cups gripping as it moved.

I felt kinda like a female Jaques Cousteau. :-)
