I found out the charity is going to be the American Cancer Society.
Last time, the event raised about $23,000 and donated it to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. The foodbank says it can provide 7 meals with every $1 it receives. That's a lot of meals. That's a big, local, impact. I raised & donated $160 myself. Even that is a big, local, impact.
I felt really good about it. I felt like we made a difference close to home.
I did some casual online research of the American Cancer Society & found out that their CEO's annual salary is over $685,000. Their Deputy CEO makes over $1,027,000. Just over 25% of the money the organization takes in is spent on administrative expenses & fundraising.
Fuck that.
$160 won't even make a dent. Why bother?
