NYT Editorial Board: John McCain's Energy FolliesMcCain's positions divert public attention from an unavoidable truth: a nation that uses one-quarter of the world’s oil while owning only 3 percent of its reserves cannot drill its way to happiness or self-sufficiency. Governor Palin’s views are alarmingly out of touch with reality. So is Mr. McCain’ ( Read more... )

Drilling isn't going to fix anything. Even McCain has admitted that: McCain admits his energy plan much like his candidacy is a delusion. It's all just a game of three card monty along the lines of the same game they played with our civil rights. So the only possible reason they're pushing it so hard is because they're in the pocket of Big Oil. Oil is a finite resource. It's going to run out and when it does, if our economy is still completely based on cheap and readily available oil it will be the shitstorm of all time.

This is why it's important to start switching over to renewable fuels right now because it won't be as painful and doing it will actually lessen demand which will lessen the cost and make the existing supply last longer. Republicans could well come off as the saviors of the American people here if they realized this and acted upon that knowledge. But instead they're content to keep lying to people and selling them this 'Drill here, Drill now' nonsense.

When I hear the chant for 'Drill here Drill now' I generally just ask where any gasoline drilled here is going to be refined. Then where it's going to be sold. Right now, we don't have the refinery capacity and it will be 5-7 years before we can GET the refinery capacity. But even if we did, the Republicans themselves have admitted that any oil drilled here will be sold on the global market. Which means, the American people are going to be fucked out of the natural resource that belongs to them.

Which is fairly typical of the Republican party. Steal from everybody to make yourself rich. Perhaps that sort of reversed robin hood scam should be their motto.

Republicans : We fuck you to make ourselves richer.
