Whewww! I can't believe it's only been a week since I updated;it feels like a month.
Christmas was fun, we all got what we wanted. Since Bill received a nice bonus this year he and I exchanged gifts. That was the most fun, for me anyway because he has been putting together a workshop so I ordered tools and accessories that came in a rather large container and he had a blast opening it and digging through it like it was a treasure chest. "He's a simple man, my Bill is". He bought me Mass Effect and a digital camera - which means that I have taken another step into the 21st century. My old 35mm Nikon has seen better days and I am soooo tired of buying film and paying for processing.
Riley and Makenna bought me The Orange Box and Lost Planet. My only problem now is that having to educate Riley is going to cut into my gaming time >o
Speaking of Riley, she has finally set-up her Deviant Art page and posted two of her OC's (the chibi forms) from her story/manga DREAD, if you are interested you can find my talented daughter's page here
http://xxthedreadedonexx.deviantart.com/, more of her characters will be appearing as she finishes the photo-shopped versions. I want her to post the 'normal' version of her characters because that is where her design skills are apparent, especially their outfits.
The weather has been odd, it is in the 30's at night and the high 50's to 60 days;not complaining, I'm not an 'ice and no electricity kinda gal', which seems to be the choices these days.
We spent Christmas morning at Edie's, which is our tradition and I enjoyed it, as usual. It's an interesting experience, this getting older thing. 'Kenna was commenting on how as a child she loved going to the Whitaker's on Christmas morning and spend most of the day; now she's happy to spend a few hours and then she wants to come back home.
Makenna should have wonderful, magical memories at the Whitaker's. Until she was almost 7 she was their only grandchild (Bill, being their only child) and we would arrive Christmas morning to find a cluster of multi-colored string/yarn/ribbons tied to the baluster at the foot of the Whitaker's staircase. Makenna would follow each one to a new and fabulous present hidden somewhere in the house. I know I would have loved that kind of thing as a child and I adore the Whitaker's for giving that experience and memory to Makenna.
Riley has her memories too, it's just that by the time she came along the Whitaker's had grown older and were busy enjoying their retirement and we were busy with 2 children. There weren't the imaginative gift-finding operations going on, but the wonderful gifts in the gigantic, festively decorated boxes were always under the tree. My daughters are two very lucky and adored granddaughters.
So, now we're all older, Papa is no longer here in person, but his spirit is alive and well in the season. His son is exhibiting disturbing signs of having inherited his father's corny sense of humor and bizarre ideas of what constitutes a gift to a 17 year old girl - "No, Bill, you cannot wrap a box of connecting cords as a present;you can wrap what they connect to -- but under no circumstances wrap a box full of cords to give to Riley"! I may have to leave him after all; it would be a shame after 30 years together, but I have warned him!
Now, I find that it's the New Year that I look forward to. There is no rush to shop for gifts,no decorating (for us, anyway) just a couple of 'low gravity' days of sleeping late and enjoying our gifts and each other.
On a special, personal note: To all of my LJ friends, "Thank you" for friending me! You have trusted me with your thoughts and have made me 'LOL' on many occasions and that is priceless to me. I wish you all a happy, healthy and peaceful 2008!
Much love,
Vickie Whitaker
