A more or less themeless cascade of random warbling

I think I'm paying for my sins over the past couple of weeks, because I'm utterly thrashed. I'm also not eating at all well -- a very distinct lack of thought in terms of any sort of meal planning.

Anyway, I'll see if I can adjust myself as I get through the weekend. Sleep ought to help, although last night I fell asleep during a movie -- managed the first third with no problems, and was out like a light thereafter. I seem to have entered into a film noir and period mystery phase -- I watched the three George Gently mysteries with Martin Shaw; those were fairly good. I've also been watching Foyle's War, which is excellent once you settle into the rather languid pace and tone -- the themes of the stories are often quite brutal, but the tone is surprisingly low-key. Other than that I've been watching the occasional film noir and considering getting the Hammer Film Noir sets at some point down the line. I fell asleep during Too Late For Tears last night.

Also entering the viewing rotation: I Spy, because Robert Culp and Bill Cosby are so much fun together. Unfortunately the series did rather wear out as they got into the third season and the stories got closer and close to home.

Today has been one for music all day, with a peculiar range of things shuffling off of an MP3 DVD. I've been veering between classic country, western music, Emerson Lake & Palmer, and things like Fetisch Park's Trost and various efforts by MC Hawking. This is what happens when I more or less randomly rip my CD collection. Then there's the extra wild card of eMusic downloads -- I have a couple of gift cards good for 180 downloads each over the course of a year. I usually head for the classical section, because fifteen downloads in a month can translate out to anything from one to ten albums, plus it gives me a chance to investigate interesting releases -- and visit some composers who have had less of my attention than was really warranted. This has included Britten's War Requiem and Bax's orchestral works recently. World music and jazz also get a look, although at this point I think I pretty much have the entire Fela Kuti catalog.

On the Shakespeare front, part three of "The Rape Of Lucrece" is out now and the concluding part just got turned in, after revisions to the music. The reading on the fifth section actually went a lot more smoothly than in previous parts. The next thing is to start on the scoring for the next batch of Sonnets, and once those are done, it's time, finally, for The Tempest, as I have lines coming in now for acts 3 and 4 and I'm about to pull the trigger on act 5 going out to the cast. I have various lines to record, one set in a hurry.

On the book front, rereading Watchmen and finishing up Len Deighton's Spy Line. I'm fascinated by the way that the big events and big revelation of this book occur halfway through, after which is rather more about the mundane details of life as a spy -- although now Bernard Samson has one hell of a secret to sit on, and never mind his emotional dilemma.
