more college type stuff (you may want to skip)

So I've managed to reduce the list to a little over 30, based purely on local and the amount of majors that they offer that match up with the ones I'm interested in. I know pretty much nothing about any of the colleges/universities on the list. If your at all interested, feel free to look through and pull it to pieces. I had originally started ( Read more... )

Come to Mt Holyoke! Or Hampshire or Smith. Both are very close to Mt Holyoke.
I have a friend that's hoping to start there this fall.

Er, you are aware that for most of these places you wouldn't be able to start this fall, right? The application deadline for most of these places is January. A few places (like Mt Holyoke) accept spring entrants, so you might be able to start February 2007, but for most of these places the earliest you could start would be September 2007.

That might actually be a plus, if you could go home and get a job and save money for a year or something.

As to the rest of your list - wheee, you have a huuuuuge range of types of places there.
Do you care about size? Your list ranges from about 1000 people to probably well over 10,000 students.
Do you care if you're in a city or out in the boonies?
Do you care if it's co-ed or single-sex? Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Welleslely are all-female.

In terms of quality, your list ranges from quite poor (keep in mind I'm a terrible snob about these things) to the Ivy League (=some of the best in the country), and some stuff in between. I could go on, but there are doubtless people that know far more about such things than I do.

* I meant to say that I have a friend hoping to start at Hampshire this fall. I also have a friend who's going to Harvard this fall. And I know two people (do you know Kalliona, on Sheroes?) hoping to start at Smith this fall.

Wellesley is still all girls? I thought it integrated. So what used to be the boys' school - and is it co-ed now? *is confused*

I'm not from the area, so I couldn't comment on the quality of the schools without doing some research... and I wasn't going to. :) I'm lazy. And I already went through this.

Wellesly is not co-ed, and to my knowledge never has been. I applied there last year, and it was very definitely all-girls then.

Perhaps you're thinking of Wells college, which integrated a year or so ago.

There was never a boys school attached to Wellesley, just as there was never a boys school attached to Mount Holyoke or to Smith.

Yes I'm aware that I probably won't be able to start college until Autumn next year if I do college hear. I'm thinking I'll either go home and work or stay here and work (depending on what I can get a visa for and stuff. I may even look at going to Europe for a bit in that time.

I don't care about size or whether it's co-ed or single-sex (though co-ed may be a little more fun I don't think it would be a deciding factor for me). As far as the city things goes... I don't really mind being in a small town or something but I'd like to be in an area that I can easily get to a city.
