Yesterday I was explaining to Alex (12) how crappy applying to college here in the States is and how much easier and better it is at home (we just fill out a form saying what uni we want to go to and what we want to take, give it to the agency for our state and they try and get us in, that's it no essays, no anything else, unless you're trying to get into medicine or something like that). The following is roughly the conservation that followed...
Alex: Suddenly I hate college and I hate America.
Me: You could always come to uni in Australia. I'll let you crash on my couch. If you're lucky I might even get you a bed and your own room.
Alex: Thanks but you might be dead by then.
Me: What?
Alex: You know of old age.
Me: Alex! I'm only six years older than you.
Alex: Really? So that'll make you like 30 when I go to college?
Me: No... it'll make me like 24.
Alex: Well still you might have died in a car crash.
Me: Thanks.
This one's not from one of the host kids but from my 3-year-old host kid's 2-and-a-half-year-old friend. I wasn't actually there for the conservation but this is how it was related to me by his parents. Just so you know, Michael is the Dad, Jen is the mum and Arden is the kid, Oh and Jonah is my host kid and Julie is my host mum.
Michael: You want to come out to the swim club? Jonah will be there.
Arden: And his daddy and two mommys?
Jen: What two mommys? Who are Jonah's two mommys?
Arden: Julie and Kat.
Yep, working with kids can be fun.
Kat.
