Title: Moments Passing In The Blink Of An Eye V
Characters: mainly Jack/Ianto, Ianto/Lisa, Rhys/Gwen and Tosh/Owen
Description: 'Cyberwoman'-centric drabble compilation with 9 Janto-centric drabbles, one for Lisa and two 200 word drabbles for the rest of the team
Rating: NC-17 just to be safe
Warnings: mentions of/implied sex and violence, character death
Spoilers: Cyberwoman
Disclaimer: Torchwood belongs not to me but RTD and the BBC, I don't get money for any of this.
Author's notes: I know, I somehow skipped 'Ghost Machine' but all my drabble!bunnies suddenly decided to hop this way. Anyway, here comes the fifth batch of interlinked drabbles. They can be either read separately or as a big loose story about the team their relationships. You don't have to necessarily read the previous sets to understand this one but you would make me deliriously happy by giving them a try ^^

Previous sets: Set I, Set II, Set III and Set IV

~*~
A Last Moment Of Clearness
~*~

The last thing she hears are bullets.
Ripping through air and Annie’s body tissue.

Blood rushing through these ears
Prevents Lisa from hearing anything else.
For the first time in months she feels the warmth.
Even if this warmth is currently leaving this body.
Leaking out of her along with the blood.

Human 2.0 shouldn’t feel dizzy.
Oh right. She is not human 2.0 not anymore.
She downgraded. For Ianto.
Crying Ianto, sitting next to…

Oh God.

Ianto.
What has become of her?
…A monster…
Taking a last breath
Lisa is relieved when darkness overcomes her.
Now Ianto is free.

~*~
Everlasting Memories
~*~

The curve of her smile…
The sound of her voice…
…on the edge of summer.
Just the two of them...

Undisturbed by worldly odds
Like sand in their hair or salty drinks.
Simply indulging in the other one’s presence.

The smell of her hair when he held her in his arms.
The way the sun danced over her skin.
So beautiful…

It’s the banal things he wants to remember.
Not the cold, steely shell without her brain…
Blood rinsing over her previously gentle features…
Or the blood smeared Frankenstein hybrid behind him.

But he can’t.
This will haunt him forever.

~*~
Betrayal and Love
~*~

Ianto doesn't flinch
When he gets slammed
Against the concrete wall of the vaults.

"You betrayed us!"

He doesn't answer
But chuckles
And seeks Jack’s eyes instead.

"You betrayed me."

Eyes lock,
Ianto shivers.

"Say something!"

His head throbs with pain
When it hits the wall again
But Ianto can't stop laughing.

"If I had to choose I would do it again.
Kill me if you like. I've lost my reason to live, Lisa's dead.”

Jack edges closer with his menacing stare,
So close…

Then he turns and goes away,
Pushing Ianto deeper into his confusion
Jack doesn’t fight love.

~*~
Would I / Won’t I? Part A
~*~

Owen almost drops his half filled glass

“You’re kidding me, right?”

And stares at the Japanese woman blank and pissed.
“No.” She replies calmly “You would have done the same.”

Owen slams his fist against the polished wood.
“Wha…why…why the hell should I do that???”

Now it’s Tosh’s turn to become agitated.
“To PROTECT someone you love maybe??”
Somehow she suddenly looks twice as big as before.
Terrifying.

“Would you have done it?

She shrinks back to normal size, softer…
“Of course I would! For every single one of you! …I…”

Their eyes meet
And after a few seconds Owen turns away. “That’s dumb.”

“…What?”

Raising his glass to his lips Owen takes a gulp. “You don’t know us.”

“I…What the hell are you trying to say?”

“You shouldn’t do this for people you barely know.”

“But…I…”

“Trust me Tosh; spare us from this do-goody sacrifice.”
Owen notices her teeth on her lips but he can’t stop.
“If it ever comes down to this situation: Do me a favour and just shoot me.”

“Bastard!”

The following slap really hurts
And rubbing his burning cheek Owen mumbles.“I know.”
After drowning the remaining Scotch from Jack’s desk Owen leaves the hub.

~*~
Compassion
~*~

Ianto Jones dangles over the edge.
The shards of his life lying behind him
Ianto now looks into the dark, vast sea.

A little bit further
And the deep waters will wash the blood from his clothes.
As if anybody would care if another blood-stained drunkard fell into the bay.

One man seems to care but not the one he expected.
Ianto stares at the hand which keeps him from being stupid.
From all the people in the world he would have never expected Owen.
He doesn’t object when the doctor silently guides him home.
None of them notices Jack.

~*~
Breaking
~*~

Cleaning the toilet.
Scrubbing until his hands are raw and open.
He knows he should stop
Before the damage stays permanently.
Blisters begin to form.
He can’t.

It’s this…
His smooth voice that stops him.

“Ianto.”

Wrapping around him like warm duvet.
Calm… soft… and…gentle?

“Don’t judge me.”

“I don’t.”

Why…?
Why Jack?

“I don’t need your pity!”

Ianto drops the toilet brush
When his gaze only meets thin air.
Retreating into the next dark corner,
He curls into a tight ball.

No one is with Ianto.
It’s the quiet nights that break him.
Why does everything feel like it’s over?

~*~
Unexpected
~*~

Jack didn’t expect hospitality
When Ianto opened his door.
Not after what happened.

A partly sober Ianto takes him a little by surprise.
No outward signs of emotion. “Sir?”
Always the professional.
Still Jack can’t miss the sarcasm
Dripping from Ianto’s voice.

“How’s it going?”

A frown.
“You shot the woman I loved. You tell me.”

Another staring battle,
Then Ianto gives in
Knocking his head against the door.
“Why you’re doing this?”

“Grieving is nothing for silent walls.”
Anxiety overtakes him when he meets Ianto’s eyes.
One moment like an eternity passes,
Then the young man steps aside.

~*~
Silent Comfort
~*~

Both sit on his couch in silence.
None of them willing to be the first one to break it.

Ianto leans back against the holster and closes his eyes,
Deeply inhaling the scent of their common past.
Missing the flirt and innuendo.
Before hell broke loose.

Mourning the loss of contact to your girlfriend’s executioner.
How sick is that?
Almost automatically Jack’s right arm finds its way around his shoulder.
Ianto doesn’t object and leans against the older man’s chest.

Both sit in silence.
Closing their eyes, not making eye contact.
Sharing some warmth.
Maybe it’s better this way.

~*~
Would I / Won’t I? Part B
~*~

Cuddling against Rhys chest
Gwen relives the events of the day.
Would she have done for Rhys what Ianto did for Lisa?

“…Rhys?”
“Hmm?”
“If something happened to me, would you do everything to keep me alive?”
“Would you want me to?”
“I don’t know…”
“Then what’s the point?”
“Huh?”
“Of your question?”
“…Just a thought.”
“Nice that you’re thinking about death when you’re with me.”
“…I…forget it.”
“I’d do it.”
“What?”
“If you wanted me to.”
“…”
“Did that help?”
“Hmm…”
“What would you do?”
“…the same. The same of course stupid!”
“Well, that’s settled then.”

Rhys takes her back into her arms
And she feels taken care of.

Physically not emotionally.

She can’t share. Bloody Torchwood.
Gwen pulls Rhys close,
Trying to clutch onto her last resource of comfort and stability.
Rhys lets her, even if they haven’t really talked
Over the course of the last weeks
He is mad at Gwen and still he holds her, offering comfort.

Her memories drift back to the last time
She saw Jack and Ianto together.
She didn’t get the possibility to speak to him
Before he dragged Ianto into the vaults.

Terrifying.

Gwen doesn’t sleep very well on this night.

~*~
Twisting Emotions
~*~

‘I hate you’

First words uttered, last words mumbled
A monotone litany of insults hissed between kisses.
Menacing snarls before Ianto grazes his collarbone with his teeth
Bruising heated flesh in vain.
Lips saying words his heart wants to believe.

Still, his hands tell a whole different story.
Contradicting every other move he does.
No matter how rough,

The young man can’t hide behind his words
Least of all behind his eyes.
Not after tearing down every restraint.

Jack doesn’t need an explanation,
He lets Ianto vent his anger and frustration on him.
Rather him than anyone else.
Jack understands.

~*~
Post-Tantrum
~*~

Anger has left
And nothing remains.
Ianto feels empty.

No sobs, no cries and no words...
No emotions.

Apathetic like a comatose
He lies in Jack’s arms,
Watching the rise and fall of his broad chest
When he breathes.

Inhale…Exhale… up and down.

Feeling nothing
Except these strong arms around his body.
Wondering about the dampness on Jack’s skin  he leans back
Only to realize that he is lying in a pool of tears.
His tears…

And Ianto breaks…in front of this man…the man he…

Unable to refrain his emotions
He apologizes with every breath
Without really knowing to whom.

~*~
Absolution
~*~

“Ianto…”

Jack gently cups his chin to gaze into these tear stained eyes.
Feeling Ianto’s confusion Jack smiles softly at him.
And reaches for the solution to his troubles.

Ianto’s eyes widen when he recognizes the drug.
Following Jack’s hand when he puts the pill on the top of his tongue.

Ianto doesn’t struggle when Jack kisses him.
Gently, deeply, thoroughly…
Taking the last token of this night
Before oblivion gets hold of him.

One last kiss before he tucks Ianto under his blanket.
Ianto won’t be able to remember, it’s better this way.
Jack will remember, that’s enough.
