I was drifting off to sleep a few minutes ago, before I realized I forgot to read up on the vehicle whose owner offered to race me.
Coming home from work, stopped at the gas station on PJ Adams and 85 to fill up (argh, 19 gallon tank). A guy is talking to someone inside another car. I fill up, walk in to pay the station, and walk out. As I walk out, I look this guy's car over. Lowered. Aftermarket wheels; low profile tires. Custom dual exhaust. Mebbe interesting. Glance at the make and model; I just finished reading it off the back (late-model Mazda Protege5), when the guy abruptly turns away from his conversation, looks at me and goes, "WHAT?!"
"Oh, nothin'. Just looking at the car. Nice car."
"Thanks. You wanna race?"
"No, I'm good."
"Mmm. That your Fairlady?"
"Well, 300zx, so, yeah."
"Turbo?"
"Yep."
"Nice car."
"Thanks. Have a good night."
I woke up just now because I remembered to look up what I just declined to race. The Protege5 clocked in at about 130hp. They made a performance version by playing with the ECU and fuel mix, and hit a whopping 140hp (it only runs on premium). The car weighs 2700 pounds.
I make 200hp, and probably weigh in around 3100lbs.
It's much cheaper to race on paper ;)
