Walking past the cubicle of one of my staff this morning, I heard the commentators discussing the selection by John McCain of Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, as his Vice Presidential nominee. I was curious, since I knew almost nothing about her, so I stopped to listen. The show is a call-in political talk show, with the hosts both being pretty far right-wing Republicans. One of the two men said, "It was a smart political move for her to have a Down Syndrome kid and not abort it." He clearly wasn't trying to make a joke.
Man - where's a bolt of lightning when you need one?
(My favorite reaction was the guy at a political blog who said, "Palin? I would have chosen Cleese.")
