Things are crazy here... I am busy with homework most of the time when I have free internet, so I haven´t posted, but I pretty much don´t do homework at any other time, so I have built up a backlog of fun stories that I haven´t posted about.
I went to a saints festival on the beach the other night. People create these huge life-sized dolls, and dress them up and create scenes. They take them out to the beach and every five minutes or so they torch one. You´re supposed to write three wishes on a piece of paper and throw it into the fire. It´s tradicion, so I did it, but I could only think of one wish I really wanted so the other two were kind of crap. There was a band... just brass and drums, and it wasn´t marching at the time, but you could tell it was a marching group. Somehow even marching band is cooler in Spain.
The other night we hung out for a long time with Gad (pronounced god) in the plaza. He´s an Israeli and applying to med school here. I don´t drink so it´s not as good of a tagline for me to say it, but my roommate has told all of her friends that she got shitfaced with Gad.
I did, however, confuse the hell out of Jesús. He is the bartender at Bar Cuba, my favorite place (which will be even more favored when they install their air conditioning today!!!). I asked the bar owner, Richard, who is british for a virgin daquiri. He knew exactly what it meant but still teased me "that means WITHOUT alcohol?" but when he told Jesús what I wanted, the poor boy couldn´t wrap his head around a mixed drink without alcohol. I think I consumed the first virgin drink every made in Spain.
I played a very interesting game of never have I ever with Kim, Kendra, Lisa and Jenna. Nough said.
Also, not to steal Kat´s thunder after her topless beach experience studying abroad last summer, but I rocked the toplessness at Playa Santa Maria. WHen else am I going to be on a beach where toplessness is ok? Probably never. I had to do it, but I was a dork and only went topless for like 10 minutes becuase I was paranoid about sunburn.
I fell strongly that toplessness should not be the last thing I share about being in spain in this update, but I have only a few minutes left in my free internet time and I have lots of other things to do. OH!! This is tame but interesting... I love watching American TV dubbed into Spanish. Gilmore Girls (Las Chicas Gilmore)is the best. I also saw Batman Begins here, and the trailors for Harry Potter y La Copa de Fuego and Charlie y la Fábrica de Chocolate. Too funny.
