I agree on what you said about Six Feet Under, though I think Twin Peaks is generally the best TV series ever made. I had to give up Six Feet Under during season 3 because I just couldn't bare seeing all these characters I loved so much put through the wringer.

Yes I'm fully with you on Twin Peaks - and without that there would have been no Buffy, no X-Files etc. Lynch is a god. I feel like I have been waiting for about a hundred years for them to release season 2 on DVD. I hope it finally happens soon because I've never seen it...

My brother warned me of SFU "It will only break your heart" and my friend cpratt advised me to get out when I heard the words "vegan chef". I did, but poor monshu kept watching, hoping for a return to form, until finally surrendering about the same point as you did. The first season, however, is still some of the most brilliant television I've ever seen, though I still don't understand: Why couldn't they offer Rico a partnership? The brothers never really over an explanation besides, "We can't".

Maybe they just didn't trust Rico? Or wanted to keep it in the business? I don't think the series went necessarily bad, but just incredibly uncomfortable to watch.

monshu and I felt like they basically chucked out everything we liked about the characters. Much as I like Lili Taylor, Lisa couldn't hold a candle to Griffiths' Brenda and Nate became--in monshu's words--"neutered" after his marriage to her.
