 I watched Black Snake Moan last night, a weirdly fascinating film.  Has anyone seen it?  I love blues music and the way music was used in the movie was fantastic.  But it was a very American film in terms of its sexual politics, with this strange sense that the female sex drive is this mysterious, frightening thing to be "cured".  That irritated me, although not enough to put me off enjoying Christina Ricci writhing around in a cut-off T-shirt and knickers for two hours.  But then again, why is it films only feel permitted to show off someone's sexiness if they can put it into this whole context of neo-puritan moralising?

Man, if this film had been made in France, or Brazil, it would have been a whole other movie.
