Third Years - Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff: Tuesday 3 PMagkilpatrickMay 22 2007, 20:13:48 UTC
Kilpatrick was once more perched on the fence railing of one of the Niffler pen, keeping one eye on the fluffy, black creatures and the other watching for approaching third years. As she waited, intermittently tossed pieces of shiny metal or glittery bits of junk into the pen. She smiled fondly at the animals as they pounced on the offered trinkets, then scurried to the opposite corner to deposit their treasures in a pile or burrow in their holes and enlarge their 'treasuries'.
When the students had arrived and gathered around, she nodded to them all with a welcoming grin, "Afternoon, aye!" She allowed them some time to settle in, chucking an especially large pile of the shiny stuff over the fence. Then she dropped the bag in her hand and stood up to address her students, "Today, ye'll be continuin' yuir work with the Nifflers. Go on and pick one, aye, then in the next pen," she paused to jerk her chin in the direction of said pen, "Ye'll find a kind o' obstacle course there. The firs' to make it through'll earn their house twenty points and an O for the day's lesson. Off with ye now!"

Darcy grinned back at Professor Kilpatrick, her slight hestiancy not obvious at all. She couldn't help it; much as she LIKED the Head of Gryffindor, Darcy had never before met a grown woman who was really anything like Killy. She was taking some getting used to, or something equally embarassing that Darcy pretended wasn't true.
Her eyes lit up even further at the description of the day's lesson - so much fun! She dropped her books and grabbed the top rail of the fence to boost herself over, along with a few of the other enthusiastic students. Once inside, however, she merely blinked and looked around, unsure. Well....it couldn't hurt to ask, at least.
"Excuse me, Professor!" she called out, and dodged a hurried Ravenclaw. "If YOU were going to pick a Niffler to run an obstacle course," Darcy was assuming a very casual tone, now, "what sorts of qualities would you look for in said Niffler?"

Kilpatrick watched as the students launched themselves into the pen, laughing all the while. It was good to see such enthusiasm, at least. Though she suspected several of them were spurred on by the offered reward was motivation enough.
She continued to watch as they set about choosing their Nifflers and heading over to the obstacle course. She blinked and turned her head, "Eh? Oh, aye, Miss Delaney?" She listened as the third year asked her question and smirked. Clever, clever girl! "Ah, now there's a fine question!" she winked. "Think I'd choose the Niffler looked most awake, for a start, aye. Also might want the mos' curious lookin' fellow o' the lot."
She swung her legs over the bars of the fence and looked around at the Nifflers, pointing, "See how that one's lookin' round in the shade there? Plannin' a nap, he is. And that one," she pointed to another one, "Too busy with his own treasures. Oi! If he don't want yuir attention, leave 'im be, aye!" she suddenly shouted at a student poking one of the Nifflers, who was steadily getting angrier.
"Now that one," she pointed to a Niffler near by, "See how he's shiftin' through it all? Not jus' any bit o' treasure'll do for the likes o' him. That's the sort I'd want workin' with me, aye. If I had such a job ter do," she gave a nod, then casually hopped off the fence to move through the other students.
