6th Year - Classes Combinedprofessor_wuApril 9 2007, 15:31:51 UTC
"Today, we will be continuing our lesson on Dowsing," Professor Wu leaned against her desk in the center of the room. "Please pass your essays on the subject towards the front."
"Was anyone successful in their dowsing endeavor?" she asked as she circulated the room and then picked up the pile of scrolls waiting for her. She doubted they would find precious gemstones buried in Hogwarts grounds, and water was easy to detect, but she was curious to what they discovered if anything.

Vivien had arrived to class early, careful to get all of her things out on her desk before the professor started class. Double checking her essay, Vivien reluctantly passed it forward, not entirely willing to let it go just yet.
When Professor Wu asked for volunteers, Vivien tentatively raised her hand. "I found this," she paused, holding up a very tarnished pocket watch. She held it out to the professor, expecting that she would want to examine it.
"I suppose I was just looking for treasure, or something, and I found this."

After Professor Wu set the essays on her desk, she turned to Vivien with a gracious smile. It was always pleasant when Vivien spoke, as Professor Wu didn't fear complete distraction as she did with Sean Brightwell, and Vivien at least appeared interested in the subject. When she brought up the pocket watch, Professor Wu nodded.
"When you were searching, what ideas, what images were you focusing on? Did you just want something in general? Or were you thinking of something or someone specific?" she asked.

Oh! Vivien certainly was interested! Divination's was one of her favorite subjects. Some people thought it a bunch of balarky, but she personally found it darling! It was tangible to her, if not anyone else, and if there were such things as witchcraft (which there was obviously was, as she was Hogwarts) why couldn't everything they learned about in Divination's be true as well.
"Well," Vivien started, trying to remember exactly what she had been thinking about. Her memory was not as wonderful as she wished it was, and she sat in silence trying to remember. "I think...I think I was focusing on the best sites around Hogwarts for good pictures. They're surprisingly hard to come by, as the sun is always obstruct-," she realized a moment too late that she was rambling. Looking down in embarrassment, Vivien fidgeted in her seat. "It doesn't have any numbers, or even tick marks. It has little pictures," she flicked it open to show Professor Wu, "but I can't tell what any of them are."

Professor Wu nodded encouragingly towards the Hufflepuff. "I see. So in your quest for picture-perfect scenery, you found a pocket-watch that reflects the sun - your 'enemy' as it were - full of pictures." She smiled. "That's very good, Miss Ardone."
"Perhaps if you do a little research in the library, you will be able to determine if the pictures represent anything," Professor Wu suggested, glancing at the watch, "That would make for an interesting report, and perhaps shine some light on your search?"

Vivien listened very intently to Professor Wu, hanging on just every word that she said. She knew that things were hidden in the context and could be deciphered if you payed enough attention. However, as she listened, a horrible thought crossed her mind. "Does that mean that the only pictures I'll get will be horribly indistinguishable because the sun is forever going to bother me?" Well this was so incredibly distressing? Vivien sat at the edge of her seat awaiting Professor Wu's answer, hoping and praying that her assumption had been wrong.
Obviously taking this as an assignment, Vivien scribbled it down in her assignment book (which was with her always, as she was terribly forget when it came to homework). A report, on the little images in her pocket watch. She desperately hoped it was something interesting and she wouldn't have to drone on for five paragraphs about nothing. "Of course," she murmured, looking up with a smile. "I'd like to better understand what it means," she added, shrugging her shoulders and closing the watch.
