(Can I just say that this absolutely made my night, perhaps my entire holiday? This is fantastic. A very enthusiastic 'thank you' to the mods and a proactive, very enthusiastic 'thank you' to all of the lovely, anonymous people who chose to put anything in my stocking! You're my favorites!)
To the stocking proper!

"What do you mean we didn't have a president?" Josh wondered, wrinkling his forehead, "What about Hoynes?"
"Well, the president didn't invoke the 25th by signing over the office before going under anesthesia and we're looking into who is supposed to be in charge as far as defense goes," Sam explained, leaning back in the chair he'd pulled up next to Josh's hospital bed and crossing his arms over his chest.
"And by 'we' you mean-"
"CJ."
Josh grinned, "If we didn't have to answer to the press, this wouldn't be an issue."
"Luckily for us, CJ handles the press corps better than you do, and it still probably won't be an issue," Sam responded with a smirk.
"I do not..." Josh trailed off, knowing he'd never be able to mount a defense. "Well count me as one who is gravely concerned about the state of our country for those few hours last night. Because the real issue-"
"Your 15 minutes are up, Sam," Donna announced, interrupting Josh as she entered the room.
"Come on, Donna, I'm fine."
"Joshua Lyman, you were shot, and you need your rest. Your friend can visit tomorrow," Donna's voice was teasing but the look in her eyes told Sam not to join in this argument.
"She's right, Josh. I'll come visit you tomorrow." He patted Josh on the shoulder and they exchanged quick goodbyes before Sam left the room.
"Are you really planning on doing this until I leave the hospital?" Josh wondered as Donna took a seat in a chair near the door.
"Josh, I plan on doing this until the doctor releases you to go back to work."
For a moment, Josh considered continuing his complaint, but he ultimately decided against it. He was tired, and Donna was probably right.
Besides, he kind of enjoyed the idea of Donna being so protective.
