so, for starters, it is wednesday evening, and i'm not in charlottesville. i was supposed to return to charlottesville yesterday, and be at work today. however, while my car was in the shop on tuesday having an allignment done, one of the mechanics broke the head off a semi-rusty bolt. it was rusty because the car has 215,000 miles on it, it broke probably because the tech used too much force and/or not enought rust breaker. anyway, the upshot is that a part had to be overnighted from california and won't arrive until thursday morning. in truth, this really isn't a bad thing. it means first off, that I don't have to go to work, which always makes me happy. secondly, it means i've been able to get quite a few things done on the kitchen with my mom (which is still under construction, after three years or something.) finally, because they broke it, they're going to pay for it which is excellent. i've also managed (i think) to square my absenteeism with work, so that shouldn't be an issue either.
back to the house, things are finally progressing on the kitchen. i just hooked up a whole bunch of circuits so that we've finally got a reasonable amount of power in the kitchen, and we may be ready as early as tomorrow to hook up the new oven, which is excellent news, as our old oven is in very bad shape. (one of the three heating elements in it still works, the door has no handle and one of the hinges barely works, and the thermostat is so off that when you set it for 400, it may be anywhere between 300 and 450 depending on the prevailing wind direction).
in other news. i've had a sudden change of heart. i think i'm gonna try coming back to uva in the spring. at the very least, if i do go back, i'll know pretty quickly if things aren't going to work, and i'll be able to start applying for transfers elsewhere. if things do start to work, then i should be set to get a degree by 2008. the main reason being that i really just need to get my act together and get on with my life. i would love to be able to start fresh and get a nice gpa from a school that's good for me, but that'll take way too long. i need to get a real job, and before i can get a real job, i need 1) a degree, and 2) to know that i won't be quitting in 6 months to go get a degree.
now, the big question is "what do i study" I'm thinking electrical engineering, since it doesn't involve too much programming, which is part of what was killing me before. the other option is to go into the college, but that has several issues, 1) I'd be forced to take a language, which i really don't want to do, 2) i'd probably have to take a lot of back credits to fill out my requirements. probably two summers in addition to three regular semesters.
anyway, that's what i've got at the moment. i should be back in town thursday evening.
