Rinoa had a beautiful habit of appearing at the right place and the right time. In the time she had joined Hogwarts, she had already begun to make a few friends, and at the very least, she had several admirers who doted on her virility and easy smile. After Herbology, she had decided to meet a few new friends near the practice fields, but for what she wasn't sure.

The spring air was delightful. There was just enough chill in the breeze to keep her face tinged with rosy pink, but the smells and sounds were entirely new for the season. She felt alive in spring. She felt new.

Rinoa stopped in her tracks as she spotted Tidus, her first Hogwarts friend, and allowed a brilliant grin to spread over her face. Then, picking up her speed, she ran towards where he stood moping and waved a hand wildly. In that moment, she resembled a little girl getting a tremendous birthday present.

"Tidus! Hello!"

Somehow, someway, someone ruined Tidus's emo. Whether it be Wakka or those wild animals or something, it always happened.

"Hey--" He turned, slightly thrown back by her excitement. He smiled though, that smile that made third year girls blush and fourth years shake their heads. Almost expectantly, the wind blew through his well-tamed blonde locks.

What could he say? He was attractive.

"What's up?" he asked casually, as if he were student himself. He didn't want to feel so old. It was terrible.

Rinoa stopped short in front of him and flashed a bright grin.

"Hey there! I'm just here to meet some friends later. Though I'd come out a little early and soak up the sun. How are you?"

She noticed the hair, and the eyes, and the smile, and her heart skipped a beat. Not that she would have acknowledged it. He was a professor, after all!

Tidus smiled a little more. He knew right off the bat that Rinoa would make friends. She was just that type of person. Pushy yet enjoyable.

He... really enjoyed her company.

"I'm... old," he answered with a small laugh. "But living."

Well... technically, he wasn't that old. He had an odd thought, though. If this wasn't Rinoa's first year, if she'd been at Hogwarts all along, they would have been classmates. He would have been a seventh year when she was a first year.

... The thought caused an awkward lump to form in the back of his throat. He hoped she didn't notice.

With a smile and a playful punch in the arm, Rinoa giggled and let one hand curl around his forearm. Then, she began to lead him off in the original direction she had been walking.

"You are not old. You are in your twenties. In your prime. You just happen to be a professor. Don't you and your friends get together and chase skirts at Hogsmeade or something?"

Yes, Rinoa was a flirt. But that's all it was...flirtation. She wasn't sure how well she could handle more if she ever found it.

"I say you're young. And my opinion is all that really matters."

"Hm. Too old for you, though, right?"

Tidus had absolutely no idea what posessed him to say that, but he did, and he said it strong. One thing about Tidus was that he hated regrets, and he wasn't about to let a single phrase change that.

He contemplated her words, though. No... He and Wakka didn't really pick up girls at Hogsmeade. They never really picked up girls. Wakka had that one incident... But that... was beyond his control.

He tucked his thumb in his belt loop. After classes were over, he felt no need to wear his robe.

"And actually, no, I don't chase skirts. Surprising, huh? I don't believe in being a pig anymore." He laughed. "When I was your age, though? That's all I did."

She began to blush a little, but thankfully the chilly air gave her an excuse to be pink. So, instead she laughed.

"Never too old for me, or anyone. I wouldn't be friends with an old guy."

She shot him a sideways glance and grinned, though she couldn't help feeling a bit heady from his jest.

...He just kidding, right?

"Really? I figured you probably went out and got drunk on the weekends or went on dates or something. You know. What any guy my age would do if he could get away with it. You should do fun things, though! You're only a few years older than most of us here."

"You've got a point."

Not too old for her?

"I drink sometimes, I'll admit it. Not as much as Wakka does. He's worse than me." Oops... maybe I shouldn't be telling people that... "Erm--- not excessively. You know what I mean."

Probably not.

"But I should probably be saying that's bad, right?" He grinned. "Though, you're old enough for Firewhisky, aren't you?"

He hoped she didn't think this was inappropriate, because... he did. But he didn't... care.

Probably not a good thing.

"Everyone drinks. I'm not surprised or anything that you and other professors do, and nobody else should be, either. You are both young and need to get some kicks, right?"

She laughed a little.

"I've never had firewhiskey. So I suppose you want to sneak me some, right?"

She made it clear she was joking, but there was a reckless glimmer in her eyes that left quite a large opening for the serious.

Tidus wriggled his eyebrows, as if he were fake flirting.

"Now now, Miss Heartilly. That's not something you shouldn't suggest such things." He was amused. "Me giving you alcohol would be very inappropriate. You're old enough to purchase it yourself."

His next words escaped his lips before he could stop them, but he did not hold them back. In fact, he said them with a smile.

"Now, if you were implying that we shared a drink, that would be a completely different story."

She was laughing, brightly. It was a dangerous thing they were hinting at, and yet, neither one of them were shying away from the topic.

"Alright, deal. If I get us some, you have to do me the honor of drinking up. And trust me, you'll never live it down."

She giggled a little and tucked her bangs back behind an ear.

"So now, suppose you already have some hidden away somewhere. Could I just pay you for it and we could pretend like I actually bought it somewhere?"

Tidus stroked his imaginary chin hair, as if he were deep in thought.

"Well, I don't see the problem in that."

He knew perfectly well how he could get in a lot of trouble for just making the suggestion. But he wasn't about to turn back, and he wasn't about to regret. It was just how he was.

"I'll have to look into that. What would be a good time to get back at you? Since your social life is roaring."

He grinned again, putting his hands behind his head as he leaned back into a casual position. A position that hadn't stood in since he was younger, that he probably hadn't stood in for years.

She merely laughed.

"My social life isn't roaring. It's not even at a dull hum. It's only beginning. I could meet you later if you want. I'm supposed to meet them in a few minutes, so I could just pop over, say hello, and be done with it. That is...if you want."

Wow. How forward was she? Embarassing.

"I mean, if you want to. No big either way."

Forward? Rinoa reminded Tidus of himself in a way, when he was her age. Reckless and risktaking, that was the way to be! Though he was pretty sure that Rinoa would be more careful than he was.

Tidus fucked up a lot in school. It was amazing that he managed this job.

"It's totally fine, man. Just come by my classroom. I'll make sure to lock the door, but that's nothing a spellworker like you can't undo, right?"

He grinned.

She rolled her eyes, but smiled. Placing a hand on his shoulder, she gave it a friendly squeeze before running off.

"I'll be there! See you soon!"

And she was off to meet her friends. Though she definitely planned on keeping it short.
