{{OOC: YAY LOOK SAKURA I'M FINALLY POSTING IT :D }}

Who: Tidus and Wakka
When: Right before the dance. also forever ago
Where: Wakka’s cabinthing.
Warnings: Mmm, mild language, I suppose?

Wakka looked around the room one last time. He had been shooting for festive, and had slightly overdone it. The four wooden walls were positively covered in red and green decorations. Streamers hung everywhere and he had even hung lights all over. His huge pine tree stood in the corner, ornaments glistening happily. On the top sat an angel with a flowing white dress. It looked very awkward and tilted, as Wakka had had a bit of trouble getting it on the top. If someone had stepped into the house at that very moment, they may thought they had walked into Santa's workshop; the man's Christmas spirit was completely bursting from him.

He smiled as he picked up the long box that was sitting on his table. It was wrapped crudely in aquamarine paper that he had purchased just for this very reason. It wasn't exactly the most festive thing in the world, but he had his reasons. He was careful with the gift, for he didn't want to hurt it in any way. It had taken him much thought to pick it out, and he didn't want anything to bother it.

Inside lay a long case, and inside that was a very expensive and quality line broomstick. It was the fastest one on the market these days, and had cost Wakka a fortune. Moreso by the fact that the end of the stick was engraved in gold with the words "Tidus Lennox". Extravegant? Maybe. He just hoped he'd like it.

Well, he knew he'd like it. Because he knew Tidus. But he hoped that he not only liked it because it was "neat" but because it was he who gave it to him. The image of Tidus opening it made Wakka smile. He had always managed to get Tidus something every year that made his face light up, and that look of glee made Wakka's day all the more special. He loved to see Tidus happy, enjoying himself like a small child. It always had, and probably always would, be the highlight of Christmas for him. And now, he sat down and waited for the other's arrival. He should be there soon, Wakka had told him he would be waiting. So of course, he already knew he would be late.

Christmas was... okay.

It wasn't as if Tidus disliked it. No, it was pretty cool. The idea of some fat guy squeezing down your chimney? Alright, that was a little creepy. But Tidus honeslty enjoyed the Chrismtas cheer, the positive attitude that swept over most of the school during the holiday season.

The blonde was approaching Wakka's hut with no particular thought in mind. Being a staff member, he knew he would have to show up at the Great Hall early, and he was pretty sure he was going to spend most of his night separating horny teenagers and making sure no hell broke loose. So, he figured Wakka needed to be there with him. The last thing he needed was some kids pissing him off, and he knew Wakka was pretty much the only one who could stop an angry rage.

He didn't knock at the door - just opened the door and walked in. Hopefully Wakka wasn't changing or anything--

"Holy shit!" he exclaimed, examining his surroundings. Or... the north pole. Tidus couldn't decide which.

The door opening was so sudden that Wakka almost jumped, but then smiled once he realized who it was. Standing he smiled at his best friend. "You like it, ya?" he motioned to the room around them. Holiday decorations were Wakka's forte, he could bring the Christmas cheer out of anyone. If the children of the Grinch and Hitler spent 5 minutes around Wakka during the holiday season, they'd be building Frosty the Snowman and humming Jingle Bells.

He crossed to his friend and patted him on the back. The other still looked a bit shellshocked. "How are you, aye?"

Tidus blinked.

He was silent for a moment.

Then he smiled.

"You're always into the Christmas cheer, aren't you, man?" He looked around the room some more. It was... comforting, in a way. "I'm pretty good. Just came over here to get you, 'cause of the ball."

But that sort of sounded like it was a date...

"Er- Supervising, and all."

"I love Christmas! You know that, ya." Wakka beamed brightly at the other. "Yeah, let's go supervise, without us you never know what the students may be up to. The way they dance up on each other? It's almost frightening, ya." Wakka realized a moment too late that he sounded like an old man. Maybe he just wasn't as hip as he liked to think.

Wakka fidgeted for a second. He might as well bring it up now. "But before we go, I want you to open your gift! It's just a little something I picked up in Hogsmeade, ya." What a lie. He had ordered it special from a shop in Diagon Alley last summer. But he didn't want Tidus to feel as though he had to give him something in return.

He turned to the table and picked up the present, placing it in Tidus's hands. "Hope you like it."

Tidus blinked again.

And then he was on the floor, examining his present. It was so big! Tidus felt bad that he didn't get Wakka anything big. He decided that the next thing he got Wakka would be a house. Or maybe a big rock! A really big rock with Wakka's name on it. He laughed at the thought - he would definitely do that.

"That shit will be huge," he muttered to himself, tugging at the wrapping paper. The paper was aquamarine, and Tidus didn't really want to open it. It was his favorite color. However, his curiosity was growing by the second, and soon he was tearing the paper like a four year old.

When the case was revealed, Tidus opened it easily, and his eyes widened in surprise.

"Whoa! Holy--!! Wakka, you didn't have to!" He stared at it in awe. Slowly and carefully, he reached out and touched it. He was so distracted by his name in pretty gold that he could hardly speak. "Picked it up in Hogsmeade? You little liar!"

And with that he was on his feet again, arms around Wakka's neck and weight practically let go all over the other man. "Oh man, Wakka, thanks."

Wakka chuckled and wrapped his arms around the other. He wasn't big on hugs, but this was a most special occasion. "It's no big deal! You like it then, eh? I was just hoping..." He didn't have to say it. He knew that Tidus would have liked anything he had gotten him. He silently wondered to himself if Tidus would have been just as happy with a roll of paper towels.

What was he even thinking about? How could he be so distracted when Tidus was so happy! A huge smiled crossed over Wakka's face. He had caused that happyness. What a nice feeling.

Tidus didn't want to pull away, but since he couldn't figure out why, he did anyway. Glancing down at the gift again, Tidus felt bad. He should have gotten Wakka something nicer. He wished that maybe it was December 23rd instead, so he could try to get something better.

But alas, it was too late. Reaching into his pocket, Tidus pulled out a small box with a crushed bow on it (he knew he shouldn't have stuck it in his pocket; now it looked horrible). He looked at it for a moment, then handed it to Wakka, uncertain grin on his face.

Inside was a necklace - he'd managed to find the guy who made his own, and asked him to make one specially for his friend. It obviously wasn't as expensive as his new broomstick, but it was sincere. At least, Tidus hoped it was...

Wakka took the parcel from his friend and turned it over a few times in his hand. "I don't suppose you'll just tell me what it is?" He chuckled and pulled the bow off the top. It was almost cute, like a child had wrapped it, and it made Wakka feel warm inside.

Pulling the paper off and revealed the box. He opened it carefully and pulled out the necklace. It was ... amazing. Wakka couldn't believe how happy it made it. "Ay! You didn't hafta. ... " He just looked at it. It was perfect, he couldn't even explain how happy it made him.

He pulled the other into a second hug. "I love it, ya." The moment seemed emotional, for reasons that Wakka didn't even want to explain to himself. He just basked in his own happiness.

Tidus smiled. He was happy that his gift made Wakka happy, and he was happy that Wakka got him something, and he was just happy in general. This day would be good - he didn't care about all of the horny teenagers anymore.

"And I love your gift!" he said in return. "But hey, we'd better head over to the Great Hall..."

Wakka nodded. He could have stood there forever with Tidus, but his friend was right. They were due at the great hall any moment.

He slid his new present around his neck and fastened it; needless to say he'd be wearing it often. Then he led the way out of the door. Maybe he'd even end up dancing, the mood he was in right then. The Christmas dance sounded like great fun, and all he had to do was get there.

wakka, tidus, christmas
