Sasuke wasn't even slightly surprised to wake up to the strong feeling he'd been thrown off a cliff. If anything, the fact that he could remember distinctly that it had been a combination of chakra exhaustion and blood loss was encouraging - the last time he'd gained consciousness had been on a couch after being knocked out by a shelf-wielding shadow clone. This at least wasn't embarrassing. He could have done without the haze of colours where his vision should have been or the persistent throbbing of his arm - his last attempt at a lightning technique had backfired spectacularly.
He narrowed his eyes to cover the wince as he sat up, which, apart from expressing his distaste at the entire situation, had the added bonus of bringing the room into focus. He was still in the infirmary; the floor was still covered with mismatched mattresses, most of which were occupied by people he vaguely recognised from the recent meetings he'd decided to attend. No one he knew enough for a name, except Naruto, who was apparently unconscious again a few feet to his right. Some of the others were up and about, huddled in small groups. Probably trading information on the outcome of the mission.
While Naruto was still out, Sasuke decided to use the time to work out exactly what the other ninja had done to drain himself this badly. Or, if he was honest, what he'd done to obtain the powers he'd shown against the monster. His sight had cleared again, so he shifted until he was facing Naruto, and activated his sharingan, looking for traces of the chakra he'd glimpsed before.
