Lord of the Flies Fandom

I am absolutely appalled at the state of the Lord of the Flies fandom. The sheer number of high school sophomores and juniors who can't think of a creative plot is just…appalling. And the amount of people who can't write a summary based on the actual content on the story is amazing, as well.

And that's not a good amazing.

Take, for example, these actual summaries:

"TE.L YOPU LATER"

"OH DEAR GOD!!!!! I wrote a Lord of the Flies FanFiction!!!!! No actually, this was a project for my Grade 11 English class. I just liked it so much that I'm gonna put it up here! Be fore warned: This story could be taken has shonen-ai/slash! I just"

The first, from my skimming, isn't really that bad; I think it was some sort of parody. Shame that the summary has to be like that.

Next, why do all the authors have to decide to stick a girl onto the island? I mean, honestly, fluff and romance are not going to result from sticking a girl onto the island. More likely, it would probably cause more violence, and the poor girl would probably get raped. Sure, they're twelve, but that doesn't mean that that kind of stuff can't happen. And you guys remember what Roger (I believe it was him, at least) did.

Finally, FanFiction.Net does not allow essays. No. None. Nada. Nil. I guess I can understand this one, as most people in the fandom read Lord of the Flies as an English Honors assignment.

Which brings me to my closing statement: It's saddening that a group of teenagers in honors and high-placement English can twist a deep novel into something so trivial as "ZOMG Jack's sooooooooo hott!!"
