Week One Jan 2007

I consider the week mostly over and I have gone 6 days with no carbonated beverages and I have purchased no fabric. It is cold outside so neither are very appealing.

R and I have been under the weather the past couple of days. I coughed most of the night last night and found some old nyquil capsules in my supplies and took one. That did help. Today I ache in my back and the cough is still there. I don't know whether I will go to church tomorrow or not. I have not arranged for a substitute, and I don't have a lesson ready either.

We have been eating pinto beans cooked with our spiral ham hock. It has made a delicious meal and is so soothing on a cold winter day. I think tonight I will brew some more wassail and lace my cup with cayenne.

Edward was under the weather too. He has not been allowed to go outside yesterday or today. The vet gave him two shots ($30 each). One was an antibiotic that will last 10 days. The other was a mix of Vitamin B-12 and some other jungle juice. He had a fever and also had lost 3 pounds since this summer. I knew he had been losing weight. He weighed 15 pounds this summer so a loss of 3 pounds was alarming to me. I gave him a dose of his parasite medicine when I got him home. This was under the direction of the vet. Gracie got one too. He is feeling somewhat better today and his limp is all gone. It is too cold for him to go outside anyway and the sand pile is piled with snow, so he has to get used to the idea of a litter box again. I hope he soon gets back to his energetic self although he is not going to get to run outside so much anymore--at least as long as the weather is so cold.

I have put away a few Christmas things but the clutter is still winning the battle of the house, I fear.
