My first world problems don't seem so bad now that Apple is giving rebates to all the people who bitched and moaned about the iPhone price dropping after they bought theirs. I thought it was universally understood that "early adopter" was synonymous with "i paid $200 more than I should have". Did anyone at all think they were getting a bargain when ( Read more... )

The thing is that the attention those people got for being among the first to have it was totally worth $200 to them. If they were honest they would tell you that. My problem is trying to resist the temptation to buy the iPod Touch. I am in desperate need of a new iPod and having a flash memory iPod would certainly help a little against my penchant for dropping stuff and bumping into things. Yet, as one friend put it, only 16 GB seems barbaric. Nevermind the extra cost, which is also a problem given my recent camera splurge. You're right. I really do have the First World Blues.

Barbaric indeed. No matter how cool the interface I won't buy another iPod that doesn't hold all the music I own, along with a few gigs of video and whatever data I happen to be carrying around. Besides, imagine the shame you'd have to bear every time you were forced to admit "it isn't an iPhone, it's just an iPod Touch."

That's actually a really fucking good point.

Also, ridiculous price drops are really common in the cell phone world. My crazy expensive Blackjack now goes for like $50 after rebate.

Yes, I know. And I already feel enough shame having an iPod model that still has buttons and no video. But a touch screen! The future is now!

The fact is that I don't need that and between the extra storage and the lower price, I should go for the 80 GB classic, in silver.
