Lovin' It Up

Oct 20, 2005 00:29

So. Woke up (supposedly) to my cellphone alarm this morning to participate in a psych study at William James and simultaneously earn fifteen bucks... but instead set the phone to "snooze" and went back to sleep. Woke up five minutes before my *stupid* Quantitative Reasoning course and napped through it. Literally. I'm kind of upset that I actually went. I sat in that big ole' lecture hall in that big ole' Science Center in the very back row with my glasses on and my Stanford sweatshirt and Harvard sweatpants and my hair bobby-pinned back to hide its unkemptness. And y'know what? I did not take notes. This was a big step for me: I refused to pull out my notebook and write down what Professor Mazur was saying -- because I was so damn tired. Grr. (:P) Anyway, next went to Spanish. I really do like my Spanish class, and the main reason for that is Professor Neissa, who is simply amazing. Wonderful, wonderful guy: not only does he teach me the Spanish language but he (gasp) teaches me, too. I learn about different cultures, different time periods, different ways of viewing the world. I think the next-best reason for my adoration of Spanish 35 is Peter Shields a.k.a. my agent/lover. For weeks he was ill, kept hidden away from the Harvardian world with some large lump on his neck (ew) but now he is here and back and we are happy together. Mmm what next. Walked to Annenberg, realized I'd forgotten my ID card (doh!), met Robin on the way back and nearly started crying 'cause I love that girl so much and hadn't seen her for maybe five days. Robin (sweet girl that she is) offered to walk back to Wiggs with me to get my card, which she did, and we met Valerie! We had a lovely lunch -- though, we kind of grossed out James with our extensive discussion of sex. I'm pretty sure that's all we talked about. Eh, we're freshettes, we can do that, right? After lunch we met Ryan on the way back to our dorms, split, and I went back to Wiggs to formulate thoughts. Well, that lasted for about forty-five minutes before I headed off to Widener to check out my very first Harvard library books. p.s. The guy at the information desk was really sweet. I love the fact that, at Harvard, they don't hold your hand at all, but when you ask for help -- they're there in a heartbeat. So anyway, I got my books. Okay, that's a lie. I got two books on my favorite Shakespearean play, but NOT the plays we're actually reading in class. :( Oh well, I enjoyed the extra research. Went back to F22, read for a bit, and decided to pay myself back for my late night with an afternoon nap. Didn't move again 'til 5:15, at which time I got up, showered, and prettified for Collegium. (Valerie will now proceed to ask: who were you looking pretty for, Gena?!?!) Liz and I set up chairs for rehearsal, thus fulfilling our duties as newly appointed Co-Stage Managers. That's right, y'all. Rehearsal was terrific, as usual. Headed over to my new favorite place ever (Barker Center, re: the English Dept.) to meet with my Shakespeare TF concerning my paper due this Friday. Jason (and his adorable dog!!) were only too helpful. (No, Val, no.) About halfway into the conversation I mentioned that this was my first college paper, to which he responded: "Wait, you're a freshman?!" "Yup." "Wow, you had me fooled." Annd... all was right in the world. After Jason I hit up Brain Break in Loker with the Ladies -- I missed them so much! We hadn't been the Fab Four in an awfully long time. Following those few, precious moments I headed off to 'Noch's (Pinnochio's Pizzeria, for the uninitiated) with Liz, Irene, and Andi. We met up with Steve, Shinn, and Ryan, and -- I have to say -- MAJOR college student moment there. It felt like all those times my parents told me about: sitting in a pizza parlor, surrounded by friends, debating god-knows-what. That's what it's all about. Walked home full of tomato 'n basil pizza and orange mango juice, said 'night to Liz my Lamont Lover, and here I am. It's eight minutes to one and I'm just now thinking: "Okay. I go to Harvard. That means schoolwork." It'll all be okay.
