On to seventeen.

Hmm...

My birthday was a lot of fun. The parents were at the beach all day and Tyler was at work all day, so Kelli came over with a cake and hung out with me for a few hours. Carolyn came over later too, and Kelli had to leave, but I managed an extension on my curfew from 11pm to 1am. Carolyn and I just drove around Portland.

Simple pleasures for simple folk.

But the best part of the day was getting a call from each and every one of my most favorite people in the whole world. And that week, I even got to see half of them. It cost about $1500 in plane tickets and gas money to get them here... quite a birthday present.

I'm such a privileged sixteen-year-old. I ended up getting an iPod rip-off for half the price (a Creative "Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra"), so I won't owe my parents $150. It's 30 GB (8,000 songs), 14-hour battery life, (two-year warranty), flawless equalizers, twenty different acoustics settings. I can make my music sound like I'm in a bathroom. Excessive? I think not.

Henning and Nina flew home for a few days last week because the doctors said that my grandma wasn't going to live out the week. Well, she's at two weeks, and she's confident that she can smite the doctors.

Car rides with my mom are becoming awkward. She started crying in front of me for the third time that day and made the comment, "It's just so sad." I stared out the car window for a long while, and by the time I had a response, she was thinking about other things.

I haven't cried about my grandma yet. Perhaps it's unnatural, but I just have a really terrific way of dealing with death... you know, accepting it.

I convinced my mom that she needed to get new breeding Dachshunds to replace me over the next two years and when I move out. She's going to start looking out-of-state now, I think, and will take me with her to check out any litters she finds.

Maybe... I don't know, maybe I'll try agility training with the next dog we get. It's just hurdles and tunnels and poles. Ruby is way too stupid to train, which is too bad, because she has ridiculously impressive lineage and is very true-to-breed. She'd make a great show dog, but we decided $600 paid for a lap warmer.

I just need a few more hobbies to occupy two years of my life. I think I'll take up lucid dreaming.

Life is fleeting.
