Up til now I've been using a Pignose 5watt solid state amp with a 6.5" speaker. It's very nice for a portable amp (you can power it with batteries or an AC adapter) but when I went to my lessons and plugged into a larger amp everything sounded so different. Sometimes better and sometimes worse. It got to when I practiced I felt like I wasn't really hearing things as they were.
But this new amp... wow. It sounds even better than I expected. I had tried out a couple of 15-25 watt practice amps at a local music store and I was going to buy one of them but then I found a great deal on this one on sale as a "Scratch and Dent" item. I figured I can deal with some blemishes so long as the thing works. I mean the normal discount price was $120 (MSRP $169) but this one was $30 off of that. I do like to shop locally so I did check for dealers but the nearest Kustom dealer was like an hour away. So I went ahead and ordered it. Glad I did. I also ordered a higher quality pre-amp tube than it comes with, based on recommendations by a couple of user reviews I read. But I haven't put that in yet. I want to break this amp in with the existing tube and once I get the speaker broken in and get pretty familiar with the sound of the amp then I'll switch tubes to hear the difference. Then I can keep the original tube as a backup in case the other tube blows or burns out.
