When I have time at work, I cruise through YouTube looking for some songs/videos to listen to. I drag names of songs out of my head or just have something random come up.
Today it was "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"
And as I played it, it gut shot me more than anything has in a long time.
It hurt in all the right ways but I didn't know why.
Then I remembered: Tomorrow would have been my brother John's 46th birthday.
Growing up, I listened to his music, being he was the older brother and had more access to music(and money) than I did. Anyone who knows me, my musical tastes are variable to eclectic to bizarre, depending on what I'm listening to. But the genesis of a lot of it came from listening to his music... on 8-track and vinyl no less. Headphones on, cardboard shim jammed in the side to stop the sound from warbling, listening as the machine clacked into the next set of tracks.
So here's a set of "classic" songs for John... and me... and for you all.
