Compassion

  I was at lunch the other day with my cousin when i asked what he thought compassion was. Him, being a priest, gave the typical answer, "love." Of course this was not satisfactory to me, cause it just traded one word for another.  These words are generally used interchangeably anyway.  So we went into it a bit.

Flavors... some posion may taste bad... some taste sweet... weird hey...

Bitter and eating bitter is more about what is good or helpful like medicine... How one uses medicine is key...

Candy might be nice... simple oatmeal can be nice too... aquired tastes... and aquired tastes... and noticing helpful functional practial simple common sense stuff... at time may be an aquired taste...

Well, for example, when i was young, i had an uncle who everyone liked. And i would see how he is with others, and i would imitate. If i see someone who is cool, i would imitate. If i see someone who is brave, i would imitate, because i felt insufficient. The story is the same for everyone. We are taught to imitate, or to be like jesus, or buddha, or whoever, whenever we feel insufficient. But these are ideas, such as happiness is an idea. And where do we derive our ideas from happiness but from our memories of what we have experienced and named happiness. So we go about our days with strife.... we strive to be happy, or noble, or jolly, or whatever, and these are all based upon our memories of such things as our charismatic uncle with a little bit of the cool kid i know in class, or the strong biker guy, or whoever; all the memories we have of them. And we mix them up, come up with new combinations, and such, and we even go about trying to hide the fact that we are merely imitating. Because the mind knows that it is simply running ( ... )
