Doctor Who 30 Day Challenge [day three: favourite monster; the vashta nerada]
I haven't forgotten about this thing, I promise! \o/ And I'm actually changing my answer from the previous time I did this because while the weeping angels are creepy as fuck, the vashta nerada are really what tap into my innermost fears... And I find myself faced with oddly shaped shadows far more often than statues of any kind, particularly of the weeping angel sort... so... P:
I think the reason the vashta nerada frighten me so much is that they are literally untouchable. I mean, how do you stop a shadow? You shine a light directly down on top of it, but these things only travel by shadow-- what they're actually in is the air, right? They're called the piranhas of the air, not of the shadows. You can shine a light around you to keep them from moving to you, but they're always there... waiting... waiting... and the scary part is that everybody really does have an irrational fear of the dark, so how do you know they're not really there? @_@ Ahhh.
