Title: Lackadaisical
Characters/Paring: Castle, Beckett
Rating: PG
Word Count: 250
Spoilers/Warnings: Could take place at anytime throughout the first season, but more generally towards the beginning, so no.
Summary: He's sitting in her chair again.
Disclaimer: I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I don't own Castle. c: Its respective owners do.
A.N: Just some mild banter written for paynesgrey for her request in my drabble meme. :D I've never written them before so I hope you like it! And anyone else who reads it, for that matter. c: The word that's the title was the entire inspiration for this drabble, though I don't know if I brought its meaning across as well as I'd hoped. xD But it means "lacking enthusiasm or determination" or "carelessly lazy"; the second definition inspired this more than the first.

He’s sitting in her chair again, legs propped up on her desk and front tilted into the air. She half-wishes that it would topple over completely and send him spiraling backwards. It doesn’t, and she has to clear her throat in order to get his attention.

Castle blinks his gaze over to her, face lighting up with a smirk. “Hello, Detective. You’re here early.”

“What are you doing in my chair?” Beckett asks bluntly, fighting the urge to roll her eyes like a petulant child as she reaches over to gather some paperwork from her desk. She frowns at him suspiciously. “Have you been going through casework again?”

He flashes as innocent of a look as he can muster. “Who, me? Of course not!” The glint in his eyes tells her otherwise, and Beckett throws the papers back down in frustration.

“Castle, how many times do I have to tell you to not go through this stuff?”

“How else am I supposed to help you solve the cases?” He asks it like he’s genuinely curious, and Beckett bites back a groan.

“For the last time, you are not my partner! You are an author, and you’re shadowing and observing me. That’s all.” She shoots him a pointed look. “Are we clear?”

“Crystal,” Castle agrees, eyes trailing conspicuously up and down her body. “No complaints here.”

“Of course not,” Beckett mutters under her breath, automatically moving to re-collect the papers before she remembers--”Castle, get out of my chair.”
