fallenmagic for my meme challenge. xD It was a Boyd/Echo request, shippy or not, and though it turned out more... Boyd-centric there are some very, very obvious shippy undertones. I hope you like it, Ellie! <3
Handlers were supposed to worry about their charges--it was part of the job contract. Make sure they’re safe, make sure they don’t come to harm, help them when they’re in danger... Failure to comply or adhere to any of the precautions set in place to keep the Actives safe could result in the loss of the job. Or worse, if it came down to it.
Then why, Boyd couldn’t help but wonder as he watched Echo and her new handler exit into the elevator for whatever job she had, did he still worry about her? She wasn’t his charge anymore, and he was sure her new handler was just as capable as he had been. The Dollhouse didn’t hire lightly.
But each time he watched her leave, with this strange man Boyd still didn’t know enough about to be able to trust, he felt his gut twist with worry, with fear and anxiety and something else he didn’t dare name.
Each time she returned he felt a heavy breath he hadn’t even realized he’d been holding rush out of his body, and he watched her as she walked towards the imprinting room to get wiped. He watched her with the idea that maybe, just maybe, she’d turn her head to look at him, that she would show a sign of recognition that she did remember everything he had done for her.
She never did, but Boyd kept on watching and waiting in the hopes that someday she would.
