On Family

So I have been thinking about family lately. Extended mostly. You hear the phrase “You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family” which I don’t think is a 100% true. I personally do not think family is defined by blood relations but the love and feelings you have for the people around you. Or lack of. Really, what is the extent ( Read more... )

I think some cultures treat 'family' different than others, but on the same note, I have several acquaintances that have nothing to do with their blood relatives. I think the reality is, if they wanted to know you better, they'd have made amends at some point.

I'm sure your mom saw something special in your dad (obviously), so she finds it harder that you won't accept his family. She either accepted or adjusted based on them because of your dad.

*nods* I was always been polite to them out of respect for my father, with his passing I no longer have that. After 30 years of being married I am sure my Mom feels obligated to remain on good terms.
